About The Money Family

On January 5, 2009, Penny was born – making us the Money Family. My name is Nicole, but my Grandma always called me Nickel. My husband is Court – which my dad nicknamed Quarter. My dad actually suggested the name Penny. I don’t know if he suggested it jokingly or not, but Court and I both loved it, so Penny she is.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 8, from constantly reading without having enough light. Court was born with cataracts that were removed when he was 3 weeks old. Back then though, they didn’t do intraocular lens implants that young. He had to wait until he was 14 for his implants. Now, we passed on our “blindness” to Penny. At 5 weeks old we found out that she has bilateral congenital cataracts.

I am planning to use this blog to document what happens to Penny and her beautiful little eyes.

Thanks for your note asking where to send pictures for my Breastfeeding Is Beautiful blog. I used to have the address posted, but I think I inadvertently deleted it when I renamed the blog. I’ll find somewhere to put it back on there. Meanwhile, my address is

I appreciate your interest, and I look forward to receiving your pictures.

  2. I love the story of how you became “the money family”! That’s so cute! I hope everything is well with Penny’s vision in the future. Her little glasses are adorable. 🙂

  3. I was recently sent a copy of your web site comment regarding your problems trying to subscribe to our web site/support group and/or mailing list. Although the date of the entry was from 2009, I wanted to follow-up to see if you were ever able to gain entry and if you still need assistance from our organization? Let me know – the PGCFA is here to provide assistance and resources to parents and professionals dealing with pediatric glaucoma and cataracts.
